Achieving Land Grant Status from the US Federal Government

The US federal government has truly succeeded in expanding its policies and workings in the land grant system. The most popular beneficiaries are schools which are supported to educate more people with high quality education that used to be solely exclusive priviliges given to top universities such as Harvard. But scant information is given on how to obtain a land grant from the US federal government.  

Private monopoly does not leave much room for the masses. Thus, the system of land grants was initiated by the US federal government to diffuse knowledge and make it more publicly available.

US government land grants are hard to come by except when you have a noble cause. Probably the best way to obtain US government land grants is by creating a school which is aligned with the objectives of the Department of Agriculture, which poses the greatest influence on individuals or movements vying for land-grant status. The industrial fields need more of the boost than their other counterparts.

One of the good and often-approved proposals for schools which are eligible for US land grant approval are those which are unique and caters to a need which has not been seen or capitalized by other institutions. Some examples include the land-grant colleges created for the black community or the Hispanics. THe boom of black community land grants originated in the 1890s.

The trend of land grant colleges are those which are technical and agricultural in nature. It was due to the Morrill Act enacted in 1890 which aims to promulgate more avenues for the technical and agricultural sector. While the US is currently focused and giving much budget on technological advancements, the more basic and equally vital fields such as agriculture needs enough sustenance to keep it thriving.

One must also check from within his or her area of interest if how many land grants have been approved. There is approximately one land grant in each State. And requesting for another land grant costs much money on the part of the government and merits much scrutiny and evaluation.

In obtaining a US land grant, one must be very organized and must know what the whole proposal covers. A good grant proposal will work wonders. The US government receives millions of proposals each year, and a badly written one ends up deliberated off. To have connections with a knowhow on US land grant system is also a plus to an aspiring US land grant recipient.
